The 17km Hervey Bay Esplanade Trail has many great views and stops along the way, from Matthew Flinders lookout to Urangan Pier and the Sea Wall.
Take a trip to the majestic Fraser Island, where you can enjoy driving through a sub-tropical rainforest, visiting the Maheno Shipwreck and a sunset at Kingfisher Bay.
The Blue Mountains (NSW)
Just an hour’s drive from Sydney, the Blue Mountains is famous for stunning sandstone cliffs, bushwalks, varied wildlife and the natural formations of the Three Sisters. There are plenty of accommodation options in the surrounding towns, including Katoomba, Wentworth Falls, Leura and Blackheath.
Rottnest Island (WA)
Less than half an hour from Fremantle, Rottnest Island is 19 square kilometers of beauty. There are no cars on the island, so it’s a great chance to slow down and relax amongst some of the most unique beaches that Australia has to offer. Certain beaches are a must-see, including Pinky Beach, The Basin and Geordie Bay. There is a wide variety of water activities available, such as fishing, boating, snorkeling and scuba diving. You’re also likely to see a few Quokka’s (small, furry marsupials) strolling around town.
Broome (WA)
Located in Western Australia’s Kimberley region, the rugged landscape and pristine coastline of Broome make it one of the most desired locations in Australia. Cable Beach has something for everyone, from relaxing on a deckchair to fishing, kayaking, surfing and its famous camel rides. Gantheaume Point joins Cable Beach and provides stunning photo opportunities of the crystal clear water behind stunning red cliffs. The Historical Society and Museum will teach you all you need to know about the region’s history and, if you’re looking for more ways to relax, Broome is also home to the oldest outdoor cinema in the world.
Kakadu National Park (NT)
At nearly 20,000 square kilometers, Kakadu National Park is the largest in Australia and is World Heritage Listed. Due to the National Park being so big, you may not get to do everything in one trip. There are endless activities at Kakadu, such as observing cave paintings and rock art from both prehistoric times to the current day.
Walks, waterfalls, bird watching, swimming holes and croc spotting are some of the unique Kakadu experiences. Some of the most popular regions in Kakadu are the Mary River, Yellow Water, Jim Jim Falls and Burrungkuy (Nourlangie).
